Being A Mom Changes You

While at Camana Bay yesterday, I decided to browse through a few stores.  This, by the way, is the first time that I have “browsed” since moving to the island over a year ago.  Money has been extremely tight (well, more like absent) and priorities have shifted since becoming a Mommy.  Plus, shopping here for clothing is pretty much nonexistent.

Yesterday, however, I ventured into Island Company.  Nice linen island clothes line the racks and images of young, trendy models cover the walls.  I picked up a pair of white linen shorts adorned with a cute belt and the saleswoman came over.  She asked me if I would like a fresh pair put into the dressing room.  I took her up on her offer; and then, got distracted for a little while as my 9 month old baby, Jack, attracted the attention of the two saleswomen working in the store.

After a little baby flirting, I ventured to the dressing room with my little sweetie and tried on two pairs of shorts, which I saw tags stating $45 and $50.  Considering the fact that we live on an island and you pay duty on anything you have shipped here, I was able to justify the consideration of purchasing a pair of shorts; and, my birthday is just around the corner, so I was going to have a bit of a splurge.  After trying them on and loving their fit (they were super cute), I saw the tags and rather than $45 and $50, I saw $95.  Ouch.

Jack and I left the fitting room and approached the sales ladies.  I asked about the price difference and was informed that I must have seen the price tags for the belts.  Double ouch.  They were cute belts, but $45 and $50?!?  Wow!  How I have changed.

I shared with the ladies how I once could spend without guilt, but oh how my priorities have changed since becoming a Mommy.  No longer do those $95 shorts appeal to me.  I mean, don’t get me wrong, they were cute; but, my little cutie brings me more joy than those shorts ever will.
